Eight people died Monday after a B-52 bomber crashed and burned at Edwards Air Force Base, the sprawling high desert military facility that straddles Kern, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.

A nuclear-capable bomber worth $121m has crashed in the US with the fate of those on board remains unknown.

The crash happened shortly after the bomber took off around 11:20 a.m. local time, the base said.
