SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba — Hurricane Melissa was grinding across Cuba on Wednesday as a Category 3 storm after pummeling Jamaica as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The core of Hurricane Melissa made landfall Tuesday afternoon near New Hope, Jamaica, as the strongest storm in the nation's history. Now, it continues into Cuba.
Hurricane Melissa is close to making landfall on Jamaica as by far the strongest storm to hit the island since records were first kept 174 years ago.
